Frank Alva Buecheler
Frank Alva Buecheler was born in 1957 in Hamburg. He is a managing partner of Freeartus as well as a theater director, cultural entrepreneur and university professor. In 1993, he built a theater, Theater in the Harbor, consisting of 1500 seats with his first company in Hamburg. The theater was sold in 2000 and the LION KING has since been performed there. In 1999, Buecheler opened the Musicaltheater Bremen, debuting with JEKYLL & HYDE. The original production earned him many awards and was performed for two years at the Theater an der Wien. Buecheler was also an Associate Producer of the GTA German Theater Abroad in New York in 1997 and was a member of its Board of Directors for five years. Following these ventures, Buecheler concentrated on his own artistic work and additionally began teaching at universities and conservatories in Hamburg, Dessau (Bauhaus Academy), Leipzig and Munich. He taught Production Management at Freie Universität in Berlin as well as at the HMKW University for Media, Communication and Economics. Since 2013, Buecheler has taught Audience + Aesthetics and Art Markets at the SRH Hochschule of popular art. Since 2017, Buecheler has also taught Dramaturgy + Staging at the IST University of Management in Düsseldorf. Since 2014, Buecheler has become engaged in local volunteer work with refugees and migrants in Berlin. At the end of 2015 and with the help of 11 other shareholders, Buecheler founded FREEARTUS artists + refugees united for freedom gGmbH and has been managing this non-profit ever since. Buecheler has repeatedly visited Lebanon and Syria during the last few years. Frank Buecheler has become an expert and ambassador of these cultures to promote integration. He lives in Berlin and Hamburg.
Bashar Hassoun
Bashar Hassoun is a managing partner for FREEARTUS. He was born in 1984 in Damascus into a respected business family. At age 14, Bashar Hassoun became a junior boss in the family business which managed and developed real estate. After graduating from high school, Bashar Hassoun finished a two-year degree in foreign trade with a focus on marketing (the degree is certified by the Berlin Chamber of Commerce), completed two-and-a-half years of military service, was Managing Director of Zarzour & Partner / Diadora Sports Company for three years and Managing Director for Al-Houda Bet and Bath Company for five years. The latter two endeavors were both located in Damascus; there, Bashar Hassoun was responsible for his own projects, created his own shop for textiles and gained experience in the catering industry. After the outbreak of war in 2011, the situation in Damascus deteriorated to such an extent that Bashar Hassoun had to flee Syria in late 2013. After arriving in Germany, he quickly learned the German language, became eligible to work in Europe, interned for the German Bundestag, founded an organization called MyGrade which finds jobs and education for refugees, became a speaker for the Friedrich Ebert Foundation and spoke in front of the European Parliament in Strasbourg. Bashar Hassoun is also a Citizen Deputy in the Integration Committee of the Berlin Senate. At the end of 2016, Bashar Hassoun joined the executive board of FREEARTUS artists + refugees united for freedom gGmbH. In the beginning of 2016, he became a partner and managing director for the organization. In addition to managing numerous humanitarian and social projects, he has established the LAWRENCE berlin mitte together with Frank Alva Buecheler. Bashar Hassoun is married and lives with his wife and son in Berlin.
