Frank Alva Buecheler was born in 1957 in Hamburg. He is a managing partner of Freeartus as well as a theater director, cultural entrepreneur and university professor. In 1993, he built a theater, Theater in the Harbor, consisting of 1500 seats with his first company in Hamburg. The theater was sold in 2000 and the LION KING has since been performed there. In 1999, Buecheler opened the Musicaltheater Bremen, debuting with JEKYLL & HYDE. The original production earned him many awards and was performed for two years at the Theater an der Wien. Buecheler was also an Associate Producer of the GTA German Theater Abroad in New York in 1997 and was a member of its Board of Directors for five years. Following these ventures, Buecheler concentrated on his own artistic work and additionally began teaching at universities and conservatories in Hamburg, Dessau (Bauhaus Academy), Leipzig and Munich. He taught Production Management at Freie Universität in Berlin as well as at the HMKW University for Media, Communication and Economics. Since 2013, Buecheler has taught Audience + Aesthetics and Art Markets at the SRH Hochschule of popular art. Since 2017, Buecheler has also taught Dramaturgy + Staging at the IST University of Management in Düsseldorf. Since 2014, Buecheler has become engaged in local volunteer work with refugees and migrants in Berlin. At the end of 2015 and with the help of 11 other shareholders, Buecheler founded FREEARTUS artists + refugees united for freedom gGmbH and has been managing this non-profit ever since. Buecheler has repeatedly visited Lebanon and Syria during the last few years and is learning Arabic. Frank Buecheler has become an expert and ambassador of these cultures to promote integration. He lives in Berlin and Hamburg.
